The following are a set of rules for converting 40K armies to chaos. In the background to the 40K universe the threat of chaos and its ability to control and subvert any army is made clear, yet on the tabletop only marines and some humans are shown to worship it. By using these rules, this balance should be redressed and also enable some fantastic armies and conversions to be made.
An army that has turned to chaos has the following special rules and changes applied.
Scarcity: All non-Troops units are limited to 1 per detachment. If taken as an allied formation only 1 of these units may be taken. Grey Knights, Death Company, Legion of The Damned, Necrons and Tyranids may not be taken.
Champions of Chaos: All squads that have the option of purchasing a squad leader must purchase it. All Character models have the ‘Champion of Chaos’ special rule from Codex Chaos Space Marines.
Chaotic Allegiance: The army is treated as Chaos Space Marines when using the allies chart.
Daemonancy: All psyker units may access Malefic Daemonology and may not select powers from Sanctic Daemonology.
Daemonic Support: The army gains the following units. These are exempt from the ‘Scarcity’ rule:
HQ: Daemon Prince
Fast Attack: Chaos Spawn, Heldrake
Heavy Support: Defiler, Forgefiend, Maulerfiend
*These are created using the ‘Possessed’ rule and are not the ‘Possessed’ from Codex Chaos Space Marines.
